Hi --
We recently took our 2013 Sportwagen to the dealer for some service regarding sunroof (moonroof?) drains that were clogged, and causing leakage into the car. I won't go into all the detailed history of how we got to that point, but so far it appears that the drain-rooter approach seems to have been successful. The initial quote for fixing what seemed to be a related leak on driver's side was $850(!), as it appeared that a drain tube needed to be replaced, which involved removing the dashboard. The apparently good news was that multiple attempts at "rodding out" the drain tubes seems to have fixed the problem for now, for only $185...

In the course of assessing the work needing to be done, it appears that the technician needed to operate the sunshade inside the car, which is now seemingly detached from whatever was holding the edges of the fabric onto whatever frame or belts pull the sunshade back and forth. The long edges of the shade are detached and hanging down out of the sunroof cavity a little, essentially slack along the way. I was given a quote along with the $850 quote above for an additional $1475(!!!) to "replace sunshade - falling apart". I doubt that we have operated this sunshade more than 3 or 4 times the entire time we have had the vehicle, so I find it quite ironic, and frankly maddening, that a sunshade would fall apart due to solar exposure. We live in southern Arizona, where there is SUN.

Questions:
1. Do you think I have recourse with the dealer regarding the sunshade and before/after condition?
2. Anyone have this same sort of issue, and any suggestions for repair? (I have yet to start looking at this in detail on the car)

Final comments for now: Check your spare tire well if you have a sunroof on a Sportwagen. Mine had 2" of water in the bottom of the well from the drain issue.

Hey, sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your sunroof and sunshade.
In terms of repairing the sunshade, it may be worth looking into DIY options or finding a local repair shop that can fix it for a more reasonable price. Alternatively, if you're looking for a replacement, you could check out snapshades.com. They offer custom-fit sunshades for a variety of makes and models, including the Jetta Sportwagen, and may be a more affordable option than going through the dealership.
