just want somthing that works - no

use mobil-1 5w-40/30 depending on the weather

but i dont think you can just drain the old oil and replace it with synthetic because the two oils arent suposed to mix

Bart you can go straight to synthetic from regular. While I serviced my car at the vw dealer they constantly offered synthetic for a slight increase in price.

It is recommended that you stay with synthetic once you start though.

This is the part where Bart is right.


Regular ----> Synthetic = straight oil change


Synthetic ----> Regular = not recommended to switch back anyway, you should stick with Synthetic from now on.

Yeah, it's a choice you can't reverse. Once you go synthetic you should never switch back. ~5k before a chnage is always nice though.

synthetic is the best stuff to use, but mobil 1 is not a true synthetic, there is amsoil, royal blue <-- I think, and another that I cannot think of that are really good.

VW only reccomends you change it every 10k anyway, I do every 5k.
