I have a 1991 T3 Microbus (Vanagon). In South Africa VW carried on producing the T3 into the early part of this century. They put some pretty awesome engines in them, too. Mine has an Audi 5-cyl 2.5i, which really purrs, and she goes like the clappers!

Most of the time I can change gears easily enough, but occasionally I struggle with 1st gear, usually when I'm changing down. Sometimes it just won't go into 1st. Its like there's a block in the way. I've had the gear box out of the car and serviced recently, and the problem is not on the inside, so I'm guessing it has to do with the linkage. The clutch has been replaced recently, so I don't think its that either.

Any ideas on what to look for? I don't have a service manual, and local mechanics don't over-inspire me with confidence to get one of them to fix it. Perhaps its just a linkage adjustment?
