If I understand correctly, your shifter bushings are worn and the linkage out of adjustment. Not too bad of a job to do Neuspeed Short Shift Kit and 2.0 Shifter Rebuild also My Jetta III GL By synchronized I assume you're talking about the synchronizers rings inside the transmission. I don't believe that's your problem if it was the gears would engage smoothly in one or more gears, usually reverse, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. If it was then you'd need your transmission replaced or overhauled. I personally would recommend doing the bushing kit from Deluxe short shift kit for 1993-early 1999 Mk3 2.0L [798 230] - $110.00 : Techtonics Tuning, VW and Audi Tuning and Repair Parts
As to the harness I have no idea what you are talking about, which harness?
