I have a vacuum hose which I believe to be the vacuum retard hose hanging lose on a newly purchased mk1 1982 1780cc Gti golf. The vacuum advance goes to the dizzy and is connected. There does not seem to be a connection on the distributor for the retard hose! Where should it go to? Also people mention removing the vacuum booster for more performace. What does this entail exactly??

Thanks for any help.

Where do you live that you got a an '82 GTI with a 1780? No matter where you live that should have been a motor swap. Anyways... 2 choices, either change the vacuum can on the dist. to one from an earlier (points dist. car with a vacuum retard port and hook up the extra hose, or remove the vacuum booster, along with the EGR that a car with a vacuum boster should have. If your car doesn't have an EGR anymore, then get rid of that booster crap and hook the dist. advance to manifold vacuum.
