I have 17x7's with 40 series tires with a 3 inch drop(about). They ruba little and i modded the fenders alot. So 17x7's would fit but i wouldn't go bigger or wider. Not saying you couldn't make em fit but 17x7 i think is the widest i would try to fit.

tire size for the 17 by 7 should try a 215 40 17 or a 205 40 15 these tires are really small so try not to hit pot holes

I like 15" wheels. 15x7 with 195/45/15s on my Rabbit. If I had a mk2 I'd have the same thing only with a 50 series.

I'm thinking about going to 14x8s on the Rabbit right now, but I broke, and can't buy wheels, which is probably a good thing.

I've settled my choices down to a 15-16" rims on my car. I'm worried about putting 17's on it and having to work on the fender or get rubbing problems. Definitely going with 7" wide wheels though, love the fat wheel look on an MK2.
