You don't have to oil the turbo but it wouldnt hurt to put a little oil in and spin it if you can. Depends on how long it sat on the shelf since the rebuild. Also there shouldn't be a lo g break in period. Maybe try and stay out of boost for like a tank of gas. I would be testing that warranty right away though. Looks brand new. $450 is not a bad price if you get 80,000+ miles out of it then its worth it. I still plan on rebuilding mine myself eventually.

 

Did you send them your old turbo? They offer a $100 core for rebuildable ones and $50 for non. So that could take the price to $350. Heck people want $150-$200 for ko3's with 75,000 miles.

 

i described how my turbo had shaft play and blown seals and he said it wouldnt be worth returning really because mine was in such poor condition. I wouldve ended up saving only like 25 bucks because i wouldve had to pay for shipping my turbo to them. and i needed it asap because i need to install the turbo before i go back to school.

 

mine has been squealing and screaming for the past 6 months

 

The turbo "muffler" on these makes me laugh every time I see it.

Its just a silencer. That's why its a ko3"s".

Tomorrow im starting this install with a friend. I will be going to vw to get an oil line.. i know i need a few other items... anyone want to list them? i know i need something that has to do with the word "banjo" lol

Studs for rear of turbo that cat bolts on to
Gasket between manifold & turbo
Gasket between turbo & cat
All necessary copper seals (6)
Turbo mounting bolts (3)

Banjo bolt holding the oil lines. They should be replaced.

 

just spent 235.67 on the ecs tuning turbo installation kit. grand total spent on turbo and parts so far:

695.67.

300 dollars from a 42dd TBE.

 

Why would you need a new oil line?

 

in the repair book it says that should be replaced everytime its removed. its not a bad idea. id replace the lines, but im going with stainless an fittings

 

It does recommend it, and we mangled part of the mesh line trying to pull the bitch out. so i bought a new oil feed line. the kink would definitely impede the flow of oil to the turbo. so a new one was necessary. not replacing the oil return line though, it doesnt have any kinks or sludge build up in it.

 

Maybe the gaskets or if you bend it. Shouldn't be much sludge in it unless you run your car super hard and shut it off right away, every day.

 

I believe it says to either replace it or flush it out everytime it's removed or something like that

 

what would i flush it out with?

 

brake parts cleaner? or maybe parts washer solution? i would guess something alcohol based

 

maybe gumout carb cleaner that i used to clean my intercooler? wish i had some left but i used it all.
